The artist is Paul Salmon, famed illustrator and aviation artists whose works are amoung the collection of the Smithsonian Institution's Air & Space Museum. Mr. Salmon's striking work utilizes five aircraft which not only trace the history of the Army Air Corps but also General Arnold's flying history from it's early days fo flight to the end of W.W.II.
Featured is the Wright B Flyer, the LePere, Martin B-10 bomber, Boeing P-12E fighter and the North American P51D Mustang. The Wright Flyer is the model that then Lt. Arnold first soloed at the Wright Brothers Flying School in 1911.

A Tribute to the Growth of US Air Power and the Role of General Henry Harley 'Hap' Arnold.
This original work of art was commisioned specifically to honor the anniversary, in 1986, of two landmark events in the history of flight in America.: the 40th Birthday of the Air Force Association and the 100th Birthday of Five Star General of the Air Force, Hap Arnold, aviation pioneer, Commanding General of the Army Air Forces in World War II.
